Kibaale. A wave of killing and theft cases have hit Kibaale District, creating tension among the residents.
Last week, Ms Winfred Nakigudde, a midwife at Kagadi Hospital, was shot by unknown gunmen at around 8pm at her drug shop on Kyegaju Street in Kagadi Town. She died a few minutes after admission at St Ambrose Charity Health Centre. Police have recovered a gun and five bullets believed to have been used by the three suspects who are currently in police custody.
In another incident on Wednesday at about 10pm a boda-boda cyclist was strangled by unknown people as he approached his home in Kyomukama cell in Kagadi Town Council. Police identified the deceased as Karim Achleo, operating at Kagadi Hospital stage.
“This is gruesome. It is creating fear among the people,” said Mr Douglas Angulo, the Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Officer at Kagadi Police Station. Mr Angulo said the increasing spate of thefts and murders needs to be investigated and culprits arrested so as to save lives.
On Thursday, Mr Joseph Ayesiga, the officer in charge Kagadi Police Station, led a police squad to Kiryani village to rescue a suspected motorcycle thief who was about to be lynched by a mob.
Residents of Kagadi Town now close their shops by 9pm fearing they might be attacked.
