Lira- A stray leopard on Tuesday injured three people in Ayac Parish, Amac Sub-county, Lira District.

Caesar Otile alias Alip, 21, Sam Okeng, 30 and Patrick Otile, 26 who is in critical condition, were admitted at Lira hospital with multiple wounds.

Mr Alip said a farmer saw the leopard’s footmarks first and alerted the residents who started tracking it and located it in a simsim garden.

He said more than 200 residents gathered in the area with many curious to see the leopard. “We decided to send dogs to the garden but they immediately came back with the leopard running after them,” Mr Alip said. He said the beast then attacked Okema and Otile injuring them severely on the face adding that he was holding a club but did not notice how the leopard pounced on him.Mr Boniface Otim, a resident whose home is near the scene, said the animal would not have attacked the residents if they had not disturbed it.

“This animal is docile but very agile and skillful if disturbed,” Mr Otim said on Wednesday. Mr Otim said the leopard retreated towards Ibule swamp and left the residents in panic and scared to go to their gardens.
