Star Trail – URA Finally Releases Chameleone’s Escalade

After several discussions with singer Jose Chameleone, Uganda Revenue Authority finally released his Escalade last Friday after he cleared tax arrears worth Shs 40m on previous concerts.

“We have been communicating to him since November last year to come and clear taxes imposed on his shows but he didn’t turn up. We have now decided to impound his Escalade until he clears income and Value Added tax arrears,” URA’s Abdu Sallam Waiswa said.

Allen Kagina’s taxmen had earlier rejected Chameleone’s BMW, which he had offered them, saying its value was less than Shs 40m. The Tubonge singer blamed URA for not sensitising musicians about these taxes.

“Most of us musicians never went to school and we don’t know how these taxes are charged. Why don’t you translate these things to Luganda and we understand them?” Chameleone said.

Hmm, Chameleone. Nice try.

Is Rema joining Golden band?

Mesach Ssemakula, a director with Golden band, is rumoured to be sweet-talking Oli Wange singer Rema Namakula to join them. The two are currently on tour in South Africa with Rema’s manager Godfrey Kayemba.

But after leaving Gagamel, Rema swore not to join any other group so Mesach’s work is cut out for him where the dimpled talent is concerned. According to Rema’s close friend, Mesach promised her big if she joins the band.

Clearly, Golden band is seeking to stamp its presence on the scene after the band was accrimoniously carved out of Eagles Production.

Aleku set for Church Hill Live comedy shows:

The Krackers may be facing a slump in attendance and ratings of their shows at Theatre La Bonita but the group will not say ‘die’ just yet.

Just last week, the media was awash with news of Krackers boss Patrick ‘Salvado’ Idringi ending his marriage with Capital FM due to his busy schedule around Africa. Then his second-in-command Alex Muhangi aka Aleku got invited for Nairobi’s biggest comedy do, The Church Hill Live comedy show at the Carnivore gardens.

The event features comedians such as Eric Omondi, Butita, Mc Jessy and Chipkeezy. Aleku had the crowd on the edge of their seats and has been contracted as a mainstay for the event. He will be performing every last Thursday of the month.

He told Star Trail: “I have prepared something special about the current saga in Uganda’s athletics where coaches are accused of sexually harassing female runners”. Well, all the best, Aleku.

Emma Carlos, Khalifa affair cracking up:

I guess many are wondering why you haven’t heard anything from last year’s music wonder kid, Khalifa AgaNaga. Star Trail dug around to find out what was brewing underneath.

The wolokoso in corridors is that the state of affairs between Khalifa and his manager Emma Carlos is cracking over the latter’s management of show payments. Mbu Carlos duped a number of organizers into making payments without telling Khalifa and then failing to make the artiste available for the shows.

Word also has it that he has a number of uncleared dues in studios and video makers. As such, it has been hard to book Khalifa for any concerts and his music is stuck in his notebooks.

The pair had a fairytale run last year, with Carlos splitting with Coco Finger over the same issues and redeeming himself through the young star.

Poor Khalifa!

Embattled lord mayor to grace FNL finales:

One would think Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has no time to unwind, what with his upheavals, but word on the grapevine is that Lukwago will be gracing the Friday Night Lights finals this Friday at the YMCA grounds.

Lukwago is not a stranger to basketball, having been at the tournament before. Well, we hope the muloodi will be in good mood for some hoops after his court battles.

Minister Kiyingi’s day out:

State minister of Regional Cooperation Asuman Kiyingi after a hectic week in Angola found time off to enjoy the waters of Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort amp Spa in Mombasa, Kenya.

The minister was from a summit on the Great Lakes region in Luanda, Angola. The minister posted photos of him and his wife on his Facebook wall and a few seconds later withdrew them after the not-so-pleasant comments about the photos.

Wamma the man from Kitayunjwa, Kamuli, enjoy your life!

Luyima buys MM pub:

Gerald Luyima is a man whose body is more used to the night life and to prove that, he has bought the popular MM pub in Kabuusu. Luyima, also proprietor of Vibes and DJ Box on Wilson road, is a common figure at most night spots as he keeps an eye on his machines.

Star Trail hears he now has to retire from his nocturnal activities in the cold and spend more time indoors.

Congs Gerro!
