Kampala. Fortune Ssentamu is fit and ready to begin the defence of his MX 65cc title during the first leg of the Africa FIM Central Africa Motocross Championship at the Uganda Motorsports Arena-Busiika on Sunday. There has been fear that Ssentamu , who injured his leg during practice last Saturday, would miss the Easter Sunday race, which also counts to the national championship.
But all that has been put to rest by the three-time regional champion. “Despite missing training since Saturday, I am confident of helping the team achieve victory against the Kenyans,” the nine-year-old rider told Daily Monitor.
Ssentamu won back-to-back titles (2011, 2012) in MX50cc and last year triumphed in the MX65cc class. A win over three legs this season will earn him his fourth regional title in as many years.
Meanwhile, Unisan Bakunda who last raced in 2012, has been selected to replace Asaf Natan in the MX1. Natan has reportedly been held back by domestic obligations.
Kenya, Tanzania and guests Ivory Coast are the other nations taking part. The event is sponsored by Total Uganda, IAA HealthResolution Health, UAPAON Insurance, Safe Solutions, Fotogenix and Mountain Dew. Entry fee is sh10, 000 for ordinary tickets and Shs30, 000 for VIP.
