Soldier Arrested Over Drug Theft

Police in Nakasongola have arrested a Uganda People’s Defence Forces soldier for allegedly stealing drugs from a health facility.

Police has been trailing Corporal Robert Otija of Kaweweta Recruit Training School in Nakaseke after complaints that he was trading in drugs – despite having no medical background.

Police said he was eventually found with a bag of drugs in Katuugo town along the Kampala-Gulu highway on Wednesday.

Otija first claimed to be carrying tomatoes to Kaberamaido but, on searching, detectives found Coartem, Latsun injections, and other supplies inscribed “Government of Uganda (GOU), Not for Sale.” However, the police would not disclose the affected health centre for fear it could jeopardise investigations.
