Shs300m to be spent on Lango bishop ceremony

Apac.
The consecration of bishop-elect for West Lango Diocese, Venerable Alfred Acur Okodi, will cost Shs305m.
The money is to be raised from individuals, institutions and church contributions, Lango Diocesan Bishop John Charles Odurkami has said, but asserted that “any offer from supporters of homosexuality is unacceptable”.

The consecration of Venerable Okodi is scheduled for October 19, at St Peters Aduku Cathedral, Aduku Town Council in Apac District. It is expected to be attended by more than 10,000 guests from within and outside Uganda.

The organising committee chairperson, also the Amolatar Resident District Commissioner, Mr Richard Ogwang Odyero, said President Museveni is expected to be the chief guest, while Church of Uganda Archbishop Stanley Ntagali will be the main celebrant.

“We have so far got Shs100 million in cash,” Mr Odyero, said in a joint press conference held at Boroboro, Lira District, on Friday. There is also a fundraising drive slated for September 28, dubbed ‘Bishop fundraising’, to be led by Foreign Affairs minister Henry Okello Oryem.
Bishop Odurkami said at least 55 bishops are expected to attend the ceremony.

Venerable Okodi, 60, was elected on July 17, as the Bishop of West Lango by the House of Bishops meeting at Lweza Training and Conference Centre in Kampala.
