Serere District leaders shun Alaso’s meeting

Serere District local leaders shunned a fundraising meeting organised by their MP Alice Alaso to raise funds for construction of Atiira SS in Atiira Sub-county in Serere District.

Ms Alaso who had invited the Speaker of Parliament, Ms Rebecca Kadaga, to preside over the function was shocked to learn that the district chairperson, the RDC, the technical staff and the district councillors were all absent.

The district chairman, Mr Opiti Okojo, boycotted the meeting saying the MP did not invite them in their capacity as NRM members but used her campaign agents to call them instead of doing it himself.

“Ms Alaso has my phone number. She would have given me a call instead of asking her FDC campaign agents to call me,” Mr Okojo said.

Ms Alaso attacked the district leadership for not attending the fundraising for Atiira SS as a selfish motive and non development.

She urged the people of Serere to scrutinise the type of leaders they are going to vote in 2016. “Vote the type of leaders who are for development in 2016,” she said.
