RDC warns ex-soldiers on selling govt seeds

The Lwengo Resident District Commissioner, Mr Christopher Kalemba, has warned army veterans against selling seeds donated to them by the government.

While handing over more than eight tonnes of bean seeds to retired soldiers at Lwengo District headquarters on Friday, Mr Kalemba said many veterans sell the seeds to get quick money.

Recently, President Museveni donated maize, beans and coffee seeds to veterans in Lwengo, Luweero and Masaka districts to help them fight poverty.

Mr Kalemba aised the ex-soldiers to use the rainy season to plant the seeds if they are to benefit from the project.

AiceHe also urged them to avoid taking part in riots and demonstration, saying they destruct peace and stability. Maj Paul Ssamba, the project coordinator in southern region, said more than 400 families have benefited from the seeds project in the last two months.

He also said the President has given the Veterans Sacco more than Shs40 million to help them fight poverty.“Over a billion shillings was set aside by State House to boost the incomes of UPDF veterans in the region by carrying out different projects like farming,” Maj Ssamba said.
