RDC cautions civil society on oil project

Hoima.

Government will confront any individual or institution that attempts to frustrate Uganda’s oil and gas production, Hoima Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Godfrey Nyakahuma has said.

“The oil and gas industry is a new sector. We want to see it develop to cause economic development. We shall be at war with any force that is out there to frustrate this sector,” Mr Nyakahuma said on Tuesday.

He was addressing civil society and government officials at the launch of a project to enhance accountability in the oil and gas sector at Glory Summit Hotel in Hoima town.

Pointing an accusing finger
Without divulging details, he alleged that some civil society organisations are being sponsored to sabotage the oil and gas production by instilling fear in the population.

Nyakahuma welcomed the USAID-funded project which will be implemented by the Midwestern Region Anti-Corruption Coalition, Vision in Action and Bunyoro Choice Uganda. The two-year project will be implemented in Hoima and Masindi oil districts.
