Last Friday, it officially unveiled new sponsors Tiger Head as well as five new signings just weeks before the start of the 2014 season. Amid the excitement and fanfare, Power has put themselves in a win-or-bust situation where anything less than a championship would be seen as failure.
For the past two seasons, Power basketball team has looked over the edge but never having the guts to make the big leap over the cliff. They had that embarrassing 2012 campaign where UCU Canons stopped them at the quarterfinals and last year when defending champions City Oilers made a fool out of them in the semis.
Such shortcomings are the reason why Power pulled all the stops to secure a ‘championship winning squad.’
They got a major boost when Tiger Head batteries came on board to bankroll the team and with the hefty sponsorship fee, Power went into the market to capture the cregraveme de la cregraveme as well as two top prospects.
Power management broke the bank to get Ivan Enabu, Phillip Amenyi and Adbullahi Ramadan while Moses Olobo and Francis Odom have been tipped to be future stars.
“We have been having a lot of indiscipline problems but as management, we have sorted out ourselves,” says club president Patrick Omera. “At the moment Bernice Ankunda (Power coach) has one option… win the championship or be fired.”
