Population growth

I have read various interpretations of why the actual total population of Uganda is lower than the projected population. Projections take the annual growth rate and simply estimate what the population will be in a number of years. The reality is that family planning naturally picks up when people become more enlightened and more affluent. So all this talk about the Ugandan population reaching 100 million by 2050 overlooks the fact that couples will be lowering the number of children they desire as they become richer. There is no way I was ever going to have eight children as my parents did even though I grew up in the 50s and 60s and married in the 70s. I bet there are many in my category. Our children are certainly going to have even fewer children. That is the way it works.
