Painter shoots self at UN offices

Gulu. A man on Friday morning shot himself after reporting for duty at the UN Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) offices in Senior Quarters, Laroo Division Gulu Municipality.
The deceased identified as Paul Munu, 30, a painter, is reported to have grabbed an AK-47 gun from a female police officer who was guarding the premises and fired bullets in the air before shooting himself in the chest. He died instantly.
Aswa regional police spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed the incident, saying they had cordoned off the premises as investigations continue.
“We still do not know what drove him to do that but we are doing investigations,” he said.
However, preliminary investigations revealed Munu had been suffering from mental illness, which could have led to the shooting.
