Oil firms urged to join communities

Buliisa: The Buliisa District chairman, Mr Fred Lukumu, has urged oil firms to become part of communities that they work in.
Speaking at the launch of a road safety campaign in Buliisa District last Wednesday, Mr Lukumu said oil companies should assist communities to promote safety as well as uplift people’s livelihoods.
The campaign, supported by Total EandP Uganda, seeks to reduce road accidents among students.
Total E and P Uganda public relations officer, Mr Christpher Ocowun, said the campaign will equip students with skills of responsible and safe use of roads.


Increasing accidents. According to the Uganda Police Force annual traffic accidents report for 2011, the number of road accidents increased from 19,867 in 2007 to 22,272 in 2011.
