NRM ‘poor’ youth group backs Mbabazi, warn Museveni

Kampala- A section of National Resistance Movement (NRM) youths under the “Poor Youths Forum” have asked president Museveni and other senior party members to desist from using provocative statements against former prime minister aimed at inciting youths into violence.

While addressing a press conference yesterday at Makerere University Guest House, the group of 20 members, led by their National coordinator, Mr Isa Kato, the youth vowed to traverse the entire country garnering support for Mr Mbabazi’s presidential bid if he comes out to declare so.

“We are not against the President’s decision to drop Mr Mbabazi, but we are concerned about how he has been treated. His contribution to this country as a prime minister and in other ministerial positions cannot be underestimated. We believe he has the capacity to lead this country and that’s why we support him.” Mr Kato Said.

The youth also warned that if Mr Museveni does not retire before the next delegates conference next year, they will humiliate him.

When contacted for a comment, the NRM spokesperson, Mr Ofwono Opondo, described the group as mere peddlers seeking public attention.

“Are they the spokespersons of Mr Mbabazi or has Mr Mbabazi come out to say that he is being mistreated?” Mr Opondo asked.
