MUST guild poll winner uses Shs600,000 to beat 3 rivals

Mbarara. Simeon Eloba has been voted the 26th Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) guild president.
Eloba, a fourth year student of Medicine from Pallisa District, defeated three other contenders in the elections conducted last Friday.
He scored 789 votes (33.8 per cent) against Believe Ampurire who garnered 551 votes (23.6 per cent), Everett Lwamulungi 541(23.2 per cent) and Mathius Ssenyondo 365 votes (15.6 percent).

However, it has emerged that the 22-year-old spent Shs600,000 on the entire campaign Shs300,000 as nomination fee Shs200,000 for posters and Shs100,000 on transport.
“You may not believe it if I tell you that I invested only Shs600,000 personal money,” Eloba told Daily Monitor in an interview at the weekend.
“The campaigns were very challenging, most especially financing. But the trust that students had in me enabled me to win. I had no money to influence students to vote me like my competitors,” he added.
He urged Ugandans to shun people who offer them tokens for their vote but instead vote people with ideas that will transform their lives.
Mr Eloba succeeds Mr Edgar Mulundi Wandwasi, a medical laboratory science student.
