Muslims Warned Against Betting, Homosexuality

Second deputy Imam, of the national mosque, Sheikh Juma Ali Shiwuyo has urged Muslims to resist all forms of evils especially homosexuality, if they want Allah’s blessings.

“The country has been invaded by different forms of evil ranging from robberies, iron bar hit men, marriage breakups, sports betting and homosexuality, among others. In order to overcome such evils, Muslims should intensify prayers,” he said.

Shiwuyo said homosexuality was abominable in Islam. He added that since Allah Himself destroyed an entire generation in order to protect humanity from homosexuality, Muslims should be proud to take the lead in fighting this evil which threatens the well-being of society.

He said this on March 21 during prayers at Old Kampala. Shiwuyo thanked the Inter-religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) for organizing thanksgiving prayers scheduled for March 31 at Kololo Ceremonial grounds aimed at thanking God for giving President Museveni the courage to sign the anti-homosexuality bill into law.

He urged Muslims to take part in the ceremony, saying such actions scare Satan away and strengthen the faith of believers.

“Since Uganda Muslim Supreme Council is a member of IRCU and Mufti Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje has been championing the anti-homosexuality campaign, I urge you to turn up in large numbers to show solidarity with the president,” Shiwuyo said.

Last month, President Museveni signed into law the Anti-Homosexuality Act, 2014. This was a historic moment for Ugandans, which came after the nation went through a long and hard road riddled with resistance and blackmail from Western governments and the global lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights movement.
