Museveni bridge project called off

Construction work at Kaguta Bridge that connects Lira District to Pader District and other neighbouring districts has been halted.

The multi-million project, which started in 2011, was initiated by President Museveni in memory of more than 300 civilians killed by the LRA insurgents at Barlonyo. “We have raised this matter with our MP and other local leaders, but there is no response,” the Agweng Sub-county chairperson, Mr Richard Okello, said.

The deputy executive director Facilitation for Peace and Development, Mr Jonathan Odur, said the residents were concerned that little work had been done for the estimated Shs1.3 billion that had been allocated to the project.

Lira Deputy Resident District Commissioner Emmanuel Mwaka Lutukumoi, confirmed the suspension of the bridge construction and pledged to follow up the matter.
