Do you know that feeling you get when you are served bad food by a very hot cook or usher?
That is the feeling you get when you watch Divergent, which premieres this evening at The Hub Cinema Oasis mall. Apart from having a star cast, the story line borrows a lot from The Hunger Games and tries to reproduce some of the scenes.
The movie is a thrilling action-aenture film set in a world where people are divided into distinct factions based on human virtues. Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) is warned she is divergent and will never fit into any one group.
When she discovers a conspiracy by a faction leader (Kate Winslet) to destroy all divergents, Tris must learn to trust in the mysterious Four (Theo James) and together they must find out what makes being divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.
Despite a few thrilling scenes it is really disappointing when a film that places so much emphasis on the need to be free-thinking and different from the masses conforms so rigidly to other movies.
On top of that the satire is not that sharp, though the suspense and style is surprising. The movie is based on the best-selling book series by Veronica Roth.
