Monitor reporter wins Tumaini Award


A Monitor Publications features writer has won an award in appreciation of his two stories that aimed at improving the lives of children.

Mr Brian Mutebi, emerged the second winner in the Media category of the Tumaini Awards 2014 held at Imperial Royale Hotel, Kampala last Friday.

The stories “Refugee girl writes to UN secretary” and “At Rwamwanja Girls struggle to remain girls” were published in the Daily Monitor in 2013.

Mr Mutebi says he is grateful that his efforts have been recognised. “I did not think the stories I wrote would win an award. I am humbled and thankful to God that my efforts to aocate for children’s rights to education have been recognised and honoured,” he said. The Tumaini Awards are an annual event held every June on the Friday before the Day of the African child.

The awards are organised by a group of non-governmental organisations and this year’s partners were: World Vision, Compassion International, ANPPCAN, Child Fund, Save the Children, UNICEF and UCRNN.
