Micho sweats over depleted, low-on quality midfield

KAMPALA:

It is a conundrum, but one Uganda will hope to have solved before Saturday’s first leg of the 2015 Nations Cup pre-qualifier against Mauritania at Namboole.
While defence has always been Cranes bedrock at home, strikers have on average been shy in front of goal. The situation has never been helped by a low-on quality midfield. And with Khalid Aucho suspended, Tonny Mawejje reportedly sorting issues with his Norwegian club, and Hassan Wasswa long out of the picture, only Geoffrey ‘Baba’ Kizito, and perhaps Seattle Sounders’ Mick Azira – if he makes it here – boost the midfield confidence and experience.
Micho tried out central defender Isaac Isinde in holding role alongside Miya Farouk – who has netted four times in as many build-up games –against Seychelles on Friday, raising eyebrows.

No innovativeness
Bar Miya’s strike, there was hardly anything to write home about Cranes innovativeness, if any. Micho will hope to address that in today’s friendly against Malawi at Namboole. “We are not satisfied with the amount of chances that we created,” admits Micho, “And this should be corrected. We are not happy with the speed of the football we are playing we need to be faster.
“The Serb had in the 5-1 midweek-closed-doors victory over Seychelles at Namboole played Allan Kyambadde with Muzamir Mutyaba in the park with Miya and Ivan Ntege featuring in another half. Saturday would be a hard ask of the aforementioned partnerships. Micho is counting on Baba’s experience. “He also needs to prove himself in training but he is playing very well in Kenya (Gor Mahia),” he says.
South Africa pair of Geoffrey Massa and Dennis Onyago, plus Azira were expected by press time yesterday.
