At least 34,434 people in Adropi and Dzaipi sub-counties in Adjumani district have been immunized against meningitis, a deadly disease that affects the brain and spinal cord, the ministry of Health has announced.
Meningitis broke out early this year in the West Nile sub-region. A total of 161 cases were recorded in eight districts. The ministry said only Adropi and Dzaipi met the minimum conditions – high caseloads – to merit immunization.
The ministry says the disease, which was largely seen in areas that hosted refugees from South Sudan, has now been contained.
