Mbarara fails police terror test

In a move to test the public’s vigilance against terror acts, the police in Mbarara led by the OC Mbarara Central Police, Mr Jaffer Magyezi, on Wednesday placed two grenades in hand bags and used civilian volunteers to abandon them in busy places.

The bags were abandoned at Mbarara Bus Park and some supermarkets in Mbarara Town. However, those who abandoned them were not seen by members of the public and the bombs were not even detected by security personnel checking those who were entering business premises.

Mr Magyezi said they wanted to test the public and security personnel’s vigilance, and to their dismay they found it wanting.

He said a lot of sensitisation is still required. He warned that supermarkets and shopping malls whose security is found wanting will be closed for public safety.
