Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi travel to Makerere University today like wounded lions having failed to come away with a point from their game against Nkumba University last week in the Nile Special University Football League (UFL).
That loss to Nkumba dealt a blow to Nkozi’s hopes of qualifying for the knockout stage of the competition. They now lie bottom in the six-team Group A and cannot afford to lose if they are to have any hopes of finishing in the top four qualifiers.
Joseph Sekandi, the Nkozi manager, has set the team’s target to reach the quarterfinals. “To do that we have to win this game or at least get a point,” he says.
“We knew Nkumba are a top team but we also knew that for us to realize our dream, we have to take the game to them and at least come away with a point which, unfortunately, we didn’t get. So, the Makerere game will be like a Cup final.”
Nkozi will be without holding midfielder Jesse Lukoki, who received a red card during the game against Nkumba. Meanwhile, Makerere are in high spirits after coming away from Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) with three points.
