Kampala. A magistrate’s court has sentenced a 22-year-old woman to one year and 10 months imprisonment for torturing her child.City Hall Court Magistrate Juliet Hatanga yesterday convicted Sadriano Kemigisha on her own plea of guilty.Kemigisha pleaded guilty to battering her child, saying she was under the influence of narcotics drugs when she committed the offence.
Delivering her ruling, magistrate Hatanga cautioned parents against mistreating their children, saying it is their obligation to protect children.
“Parents are meant to be highly protective of their offsprings, but it is really unfortunate that in this era many have turned out to be so cruel. However, since you have not wasted court’s time you are sentenced to 22 months in jail,” Ms Hatanga said.According to the court records, Kemigisha repeatedly tortured her three-year-old son, beating him severely, biting and using a candle to burn him.
The convict said: “I admit that this boy is my biological child whom I conceived with a man of Danish origin. He fled back to his country on realising that I was pregnant. This incident made me grow much resentment towards this child.” Magistrate Hatanga ordered that the child be taken to Noah’s Ark Children Ministry on request from the child protection unit of Ntinda Police Station.
