Kabale. The MP for Rukiga County, Mr Jack Sabiiti, has urged Opposition politicians to work with the ruling NRM party to promote national development instead of promoting hatred that results in poor service delivery and poverty.
“I am a member of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and I am not about to denounce it. Let us use the political parties we subscribe to to lobby the government to deliver services to our people but not promoting hatred among each other,” Mr Sabiiti said.
He made the call at a fund-raising function for roofing Kamwezi Catholic Parish Church in Rukiga County on Easter Sunday.
Mr Sabiiti also donated a cow to Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, who was the chief guest, arguing that being in Opposition does not mean hating leaders in government.
His gesture comes at a time when some Opposition politicians are suspected of being compromised by the NRM.
While touring Kigezi sub-region early this year, Mr Museveni promised to work with Mr Sabiiti to cause development in Rukiga.
In his message, Dr Rugunda lauded the Bishop of Kabale Diocese, the Rt Rev Callist Rubaramira, for focusing on income-generating activities and uniting Christians in the region.
The Prime Minister urged the Church to continue supporting government programmes on wealth creation to fight poverty.
Dr Rugunda donated more than Shs20m to the church.
