The long-awaited Tokosa Food festival finally kicked off at Legends bar’s grounds in Kyadondo. The fete mostly attracted the anticipated crowd – the kind you will bump into at Blankets and Wine, Goat Races and such events.
Interestingly, a kitchen enthusiast most likely left underwhelmed. Yes, there was some cooking, but if one expected to experiment with Thai, Chinese, French, or Mediterranean cuisines, then it was the wrong festival.
In fact, there was more beer than food it was easier to see a patron with a bottle than one with food and much as people had to part with Shs 10,000 at the entrance, they had to buy all their food from the different restaurant stalls. Look at it as paying to access a usually free-entrance restaurant.
But to the organisers’ credit, the cook-off between celebrities including Crystal Newman, Roger Mugisha and Benon Mugumbya was entertaining. Newman won the duel where she prepared spaghetti and meat chops, as Mugumbya served the same recipe, only that his spaghetti was raw.
The competitions were officiated by renowned chef Kaddu Mukasa Kironde, Kavitha Sserunkuma and Vivo Energy’s Cerinah Zalwango. Irene Ntale provided the entertainment with acoustic versions of all her songs.
