LC chairman hacks wife over Shs200

A thirty-year-old woman is nursing severe wounds reportedly inflicted on her by her husband, Mr Santo Okello, 50, the area Local Council chairperson, following a row over Shs200 on Wednesday.

Ms Nancy Akello, a resident of Lacinga village, Ogom Sub-county, Pader District, said her husband demanded Shs200 from her to go back for a drinking session. She said when she refused, he beat her up and hit her with an axe which inflicted a deep cut on her eye.

“He was at the drinking joint the whole day and when he returned home, he demanded Shs200 from me, which I refused to give him. He started fighting me,” Ms Akello said.

Pader District Police Commander Romeo Onek Ojara said Okello had been arrested. However, Mr Okello pleaded for forgiveness, saying he had acted under influence of alcohol.

The councillor for Pajule-Lapul sub-counties and secretary for production and community services, Ms Rose Lato, however, insisted Mr Okello should be prosecuted as a deterrent to other leaders who take the law in their hands.
