Lango Cultural Foundation peace talks flop

Lira- A planned signing of a peace agreement to bring together two rival factions of Lango Cultural Foundation has flopped.

It was expected last week that a deal would be reached between Lango Paramount Chief (Won Nyaci) Yosam Odur Ebir and those against his leadership. The talks were mediated by Dialogue for Peace, an NGO in the Lango sub-region.

The ceremony was slated to take place in Lira Town. However, those who support Won Nyaci Odur, did not show up, arguing that they were still analysing the document.

The two factions have been at loggerhead for long, with the anti-Won Nyaci Odur group accusing him of financial mismanagement, contravening the constitution of the Lango Cultural Foundation and being incompetent in serving his subjects.

The meeting was adjourned until further notice, according to Mr Milton Ogwal, the acting chairperson of Dialogue for Peace.

In an interview with the Daily Monitor, Won Nyaci Odur accused the peace mediator of siding with those opposed to him.

Mr Martin Odongo, the Dialogue for Peace director, denied the allegation.
