Kazinda abandoned by lawyer

KAMPALA. A third lawyer in the case in which jailed former principal accountant in Prime Minister’s Office Geoffrey Kazinda is charged with fraud has abandoned him after he failed to pay legal fees.
Kazinda who had appeared at the Anti-Corruption Court for an adjournment citing that his lawyer was away was taken by events after he was informed that he had not given his lawyer (Mr Ernest Kalibala)full instructions to represent him.
“We have had a closed meeting together with your lawyer and the state attorney and he informed us that he was not fully instructed. It is affecting his work relationship with his law firm who think that he gets a pay from you whereas not,” Justice Lawrence Gidudu told Kazinda.

The judge further said, “Am disappointed that the games that had stopped have now come back, I thought you had got a lawyer you had blended with”.
Mr Kazinda is on trial on charges of abuse of office, embezzlement, causing financial loss of more than Shs316 million to the government and diversion of public resources.
He is jointly charged with Ms Beatrice Kezabu (assistant resettlement officer), who is also separately charged with false accounting Ms Shamim Masembe, the proprietor of Total fuel station in Ntinda, and businessman Hussein Katumwa, the station manager.
Mr Kazinda is facing 69 corruption charges in the same court.
