Karamoja magistrate finally gets vehicle

The Moroto Chief Magistrate, Mr Katorogo Mutazindwa, is a happy man.

The judicial official who would traverse four districts to dispense justice on a boda boda (hired motorcycle) has now acquired a brand new vehicle.
Mr Katorogo oversees the districts of Moroto, Nakapiripirit, Napak and Amudat in the hard-to-reach sub-region of Karamoja.

In April this newspaper broke the story that the chief magistrate was travelling on a boda boda to fulfil his duties.

“I am here to deliver justice to the people with or without a car. But I know anytime from now, I will get a car,” Mr Katorogo said then.

The April report indicated that the Grade One magistrates for Nakapiripirit and Moroto face a similar challenge of lack of transport and on several occasions they are seen walking to court.
Many times the judicial officials lose valuable documents when it starts raining.

Mr Katorogo, who received a Hilux double-cabin pick-up from the Judiciary last week, thanked the Judiciary for rescuing him.

“ I knew that I would get a car. So God has answered my prayer,” Mr Katorogo said.
He added that the Judiciary has doubled his morale to work in Karamoja sub-region.
