Former minister to head Busoga Kingdom cabinet

A former minister of state for Fisheries in the incumbent government, Mr Fred Mukisa, has been appointed as Katukiro [prime minister] of the interim Busoga Kingdom cabinet.Mr Mukisa was named in a cabinet announced by the acting Kyabazinga (king) of Busoga, Prince Daudi Kawunhe Wakoli, to run the kingdom administration.Mr Mukisa replaces Mr Wilson Muwereza Mutebe who was recently ordered to hand over kingdom property by the government. Mr Muwereza’s entire cabinet has also been dropped.

stronNew cabinet stronAccording to the new cabinet list, Mr Wilberforce Bukonko and Mr Gideon Lubale have been appointed first deputy katukiro and second deputy katukiro respectively.Mr Alfred Okurut has been appointed as the minister for finance and economic planning, while Mr Ahmed Osman Noor, who resigned from Mr Muwereza’s cabinet in 2008 citing loss of focus, bounces back as minister for trade, transport and tourism.Dr Elliot Munaba is the new minister of health, while the assistant manager of NBS FM, Mr Meddy Dhakaba, has been appointed minister for information. Ms Florence Nadunga Kayemba was named the kingdom’s attorney general.Others in the cabinet are Mr Joshua Kitakule (industry and technology), Ms Cathy Nangobi (protocol in the office of the prime minister), Ms Jessica Rugazankuka (gender and elderly), Mr Rashid Kimera Ndikabona (chiefdoms), Mr Ishaka Magemeso (community development), Pastor Sam Mugote (agriculture and environment) and Mr Fred Kasisa (education, youths and sports).The cabinet is expected to work with the Lukiiko to organise elections through which the kingdom is expected to get a Kyabazinga, acceptable to all Basoga.
