KAMPALA. A year after failing to qualify, Uzairu Kamoga’s homework came to perfection as he reigned supreme at the Nile Special National Open Pool Championship qualifiers at Shooters Bar in Najjanankumbi on Saturday.

The fisherman from Kasenyi landing site came out top with a stunning 4-3 win over Richard Muhumuza in the best-of-seven final in front of a packed crowd to confirm a slot at the Lugogo finals due September 6.

“I am delighted to have made a sounding comeback this year,” an enchanted Kamoga said after receiving the winner’s medal and Shs150,000 cash prize.

“I missed the Lugogo finals last year but I am eyeing the semifinals this time,” the Takers’ Club player added.

Kamoga had earlier edged Isaac Luwaga 3-2 whereas beaten runner-up Muhumuza had also picked a similar result against John Magala in the semifinals. Luwaga beat Magala 3-0 to take the third-place qualification playoff place.

In the Kabalagala qualifiers, David Owori easily dispatched Ronald Waligo 4-1 to secure a third successive ticket to the national finals. dkyeyune@ug.nationmedia.com
