As we bid farewell to 2014, one cannot not help but look back at how great it has been, especially for fashion.
Trends have come and gone so fast. We have seen retro versions of what was rocking way back. I would like to describe it as a “colourful year”. For every trend that came out, its colourful version is the one that caught on. Vibrant African prints took over to the extent that even the men caught the floral bug and rocked them proudly.
The prints are undoubtedly crossing over into 2015 because designers local and international have embraced the fabric and look set to blow us away with different designs.
Speaking of vibrancy, the shoes got brighter than ever. Bright coloured heels became the girls’ best friend. The year was not all about African cotton fabric though. The faux leather demanded for its share in the wardrobe, especially for those who fancy the urban look.
To complete the look, chunky accessories mostly in gold became must-haves. Paired correctly, big earrings, big rings or a big neckpiece transformed outfits and will still be here in 2015.
As we cross into the New Year, make sure you ‘detox’ your wardrobe to create space for whatever will be trending. Your must-go list should have wedge sneakers, dungarees, cropped tops among others, in order to create space for 2015’s interesting silhouettes, patterns and textures.
On the social scene, the ladies and gents really dressed for events. Thank you for not just turning up but making sure you looked good. Wishing you a fashionable 2015.
