Fashion Awards Return Refreshed

Last year, it was called the Fashion Xplosion Men awards. It returns this year, but refreshed and renamed.

The Abryanz Style and Fashion awards take place this evening at the MTN Arena, Lugogo. The brains behind it, Brian Ahumuza, promises the biggest fashion and style event on the local social scene. Ahumuza, a fashion collector and proprietor of Abryanz Collection, has made a name by styling Ugandan male celebrities and now has his biggest outlet at Garden City.

Speaking to The Observer about the awards, he said, “Our primary goal is to see the industry grow and we are making headway. The awards bring together fashion designers, collectors, models, photographers and writers in different categories and there is no prize money attached to them.

This year’s theme is Dress For Success. The idea is to make people appreciate the industry and understand that fashion is more than just ‘Swagg.’

“The way you dress can determine your success,” Ahumuza observes.

The number of categories has since grown and so has the voting system. The categories have increased from 12 to 22. There are two voting systems where the SMS platform run by SMS One will contribute 60 per cent while online will contribute 40. The online voting system will be one person, one vote, making it even more transparent.

The awards for Best Dressed TV Personality (male and female), Upcoming Model (male and female) and Fashion designer (male and female) are some of the most competitive. There will also be an award for the best-dressed female and male guests. So, put your best foot forward. Fenon Records will be in charge of production.

As expected, the main action will be on the runway. Distal from DRC and Tchatcho from Cameroon will showcase their deigns alongside Ugandan fashion designers such as Martha Jabo, Anita Beryl and last year’s winner in the designers’ category, Ras Kasozi. There will also be performances from Desire Luzinda, Atlas, and Radio and Weasel, among others.
