Hoima- A chimpanzee in Hoima District on Tuesday carried a two-month-old bay from a garden where his mother was digging, injuring the little boy in the process.
Ms Rosemary Nyangoma, the baby’s mother said the chimpanzee had sneaked into the garden, carrying the baby who was sleeping at the far end.
However, Ms Nyangoma was alarmed after she failed to locate the baby from the place where she had placed him while asleep.
“I began looking around searching for the baby not until I heard him crying in the forest adjacent to my garden,” she told journalists at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital.
The incident reportedly occurred in Kikinga village, Nyarugabo parish in Bugambe Sub-county.
She was later joined by residents who searched for the baby until he was found in the hands of the chimpanzee.
“We saw the chimpanzee carrying the baby. When we made alarms it dropped the baby down and disappeared in the thick of the forest,” Ms Nyangoma.
The baby, who was profusely crying had several injuries including a fractured arm. His head and private parts also had injuries.
The baby who had been rushed to Azur Christian Health Centre was later referred to Hoima regional referral hospital for further management.
The Hoima Regional Referral Hospital medical superintendent, Dr Francis Mulwanyi, said the baby was recuperating from the injuries.
