In a first of its kind, CBS FM has formally embarked on a campaign to reward outstanding footballers in the topflight league. Dubbed the CBS Footballer of the Year award, it will be annual, starting with this year.
If you are familiar with the BBC footballer of the year awards, these will follow along the same basic setup. Launching the awards on Wednesday, CBS FM director Godfrey Kaaya Kavuma said: “This will be one of the ways to appreciate exceptional talents in football and we hope the awards will inspire many to hork hard and excel.”
The shortlist for the award will be drawn up by football experts led by former KCC player and coach Tom Lwanga and veteran sports journalist Hassan Badru Zziwa. They will base their choices on players’ skill, technical ability, teamwork, consistency and fair play.
Three players will make the final shortlist that will be released for public vote and the eventual winner will take home a plaque plus other monetary awards.
