Car failure saves Mzee Bukenya’s dimes

Kampala. Every rally driver sets out to win when they enter the cockpit. That definitely must have been the case for Mzee Wycliff ‘Rolling Master’ Bukenya over the weekend. With Wilbert Pole Pole ahead of him in the early stages of the Source of the Nile Rally in Jinja, the veteran driver was tempted into a bet with each driver staking Shs500,000. Bukenya believed he would overtake Pole Pole, something the former disputed. Bukenya would later be saved by his car’s mechanical condition as he failed to complete the race. As things stood, he must have been happy at least for once that his car failed him. On the other hand, the Kajara Rally team driver Pole Pole finished second overall in what should surely be good news for his sponsors. Earlier in Mbarara, Pole Pole had also put in a respectable shift.
