BOAT ACCIDENT: Death toll rises to 108

NtorokoThe death toll of Congolese Refugees who died in Lake Albert after the boat in which they were sailing capsized continues to rise as police intensifies efforts to search for bodies of victims of the accident.This morning, the Police’s marine force with over 6 personnel who were joined by fishermen in the search, retrieved bodies of the people who perished in the accident.”So far the bodies retrieved from the waters today are 82 and on Sunday evening we found 7 bodies which indicate that the boat was really over-loaded” said Ojokuna John Elatu the Police Commander Kibaale.

Ojokuna confirmed that the search for more bodies is still on and Police is optimistic that their marine are likely to find more.

The bodies were transported to Ntoroko Hospital mortuary for post mortem with the help of Kibaale district speed boat.

On Saturday after the boat sunk in the waters of Lake Albert at Kitebere landing site,19 bodies were retrieved and 45 people rescued alive bythe fishermen.

The boat was reported to be carrying over 150 Congolese refugees who were escaping from Kyangwali camp in Hoima through Senjonjo landing site to Ntoroko and thereafter proceed to their home land of Kamangoin the Democratic Republic of Congo.
