The final edition of Blankets and Wine for 2014 takes place this Sunday at the Uganda Museum gardens.
This will be the eighth edition of the event that celebrates Afro music presented in different styles. The picnic setting and laidback style of the proceedings have made it a mainstay on the social calendar, as it has proved to be a meeting point for people with a bottle of wine or other favourite drinksfood.
Tusker Malt Lager, the main sponsors, announced the stars that will grace the stage for this year’s finale. The line-up is aimed at giving the audience a good blend of music genres and usher in the festive season with a bang. The South African award-winning band, Freshly Ground, will be the main act.
The band has performed all over the world, but their presence at the 2010 World Cup opening and closing ceremonies was quite memorable, thanks to the collaboration with Shakira. Also taking to the stage will be a carefully-chosen line-up of Ugandan performers to deliver the right feel of Afro-pop and Afro-fusion acts.
The soulful crooner Ekky, saxophonist of the moment, Michael Kitanda and Mun*G, the self-acclaimed ‘baddest’ and most creative Ugandan rapper, will be part of the act. Aance tickets cost Shs 50,000, and Shs 75,000 at the gate.
