Beauty queens from Tanzania (Lillian Kamanzima) and Rwanda (Colombe Akiwacu) have arrived in Uganda, joining their counterpart Leah Kalanguka for the fourth edition of Mavuno Yetu, scheduled for Friday at Lake Victoria Serena Resort.
Mavuno Yetu is Kiswahili for ‘our harvest’. Serena in partnership with Arapapa have organized yet another fun-filled night of the best food, drinks, fashion and dance from all parts of East Africa. The beauty queens arrived over the weekend and treated a few guests to the different foods they cooked.
They will be at it again on Friday with the help of chefs from Tanzania, Zanzibar, Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya and Uganda to make sumptuous meals the authentic way. Apart from the hearty African banquet, Kenyan fashion designer Jamil Walji will be showcasing his latest collection alongside Arapapa fashion house.
Santa Anzo of Arapapa just returned from Kigali Fashion Week where her Kitengelicious – her new collection – was one of the show’s highlights. The beauty queens and some top models from this region are expected to hit the runway showcasing some pieces from that and Walji’s collections.
Last year, Tanzanian designer Mustafa Hassanali’s designs graced the runway. Uganda’s oldest band, Afrigo, will perform for the guests. Crane Performers is also lined up for the night.
Mavuno Yetu was conceptualised by the management of Lake Victoria Serena Resort in 2011, and started as a theme for their annual East African festivities. RwandAir has come on board as partners this year.
