Akope wins Lady Captain’s Prize money category

On a wet, soggy and slippery par-72 Uganda Golf Club (UGC) Kitante course, Deo Akope weathered conditions to win the Shs5m professionals’ category of the Lady Captain’s Prize tournament on Friday.

Akope, fresh from a dismal showing at the Kenya Open, shot one-under-par 71 to leave the elite field of 16 professionals in his wake by two strokes. Former Uganda Open champion Brian Mwesigwa (73), Jinja-based Saidi Mawa (74), Opio Onito (74) and Dennis Anguyo (74) finished second, joint third and fifth respectively. Comeback kid Godfrey Mande made the money cut after he shot four-over-par 76 to finish joint sixth Entebbe Greens Keeper George Olayo.
