Akena lauds Museveni

LIRA- Lira Municipality MP Jimmy Akena has lauded President Museveni for ending the two-decade war in the north and re-developing the region.

“I want to send my special appreciation to the big man, President Museveni, for his initiative in developing the north,” Mr Akena said.

He was speaking during the ground-breaking ceremony of civil works under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) Project in the municipality. USMID is a $150m programme financed by the World Bank to be implemented in 14 municipalities in a period of five years. Lira Municipality has received Shs5b for the implementation of activities.

Rare comment
This is the first time Mr Akena, a member of Uganda People’s Congress party, publicly appreciates President Museveni’s leadership. Mr Akena is a son of Milton Obote, whose regime was toppled by his army commanders that Mr Museveni’s National Resistance Army, eventually overthrew.

Mr Akena also asked the government to grant the municipality a city status, saying that the district meets all the requirements.
