The State minister for Health, Dr Elioda Tumwesigye, has cautioned women not to indulge in unprotected sex that results in unwanted pregnancies which they later abort.“People must guard their life because it cannot be bought. Government wants healthy people. Why should women resort to abortion just because they got pregnant by chance and not by choice?” Dr Tumwesigye asked.Dr Tumwesigye made the appeal while officiating at a community awareness day on the importance of life, at Bakuli in Rubaga Division, Kampala last Tuesday.The healthy awareness campaign under the theme, “I matter” was organised by Victorious Education Services.The minister listed the effects of abortion as, emotional and psychological regret, anger, guilt feeling, shame, insomnia or nightmares and suicidal thoughts. Dr Tumwesigye also asked Ugandans to learn how to handle stress so as to avoid being violent in their families and community.At the same function medical practitioners from Health ministry carried out free HIV testing as well as for high blood pressure and cancer. There was also donation of blood. Victorious Education Services donated an assortment of items worthy Shs20 million to the residents of Namirembe – Bakuli. They included clothes, beddings and toiletries. The minister also asked teachers to encourage pupils to take up science courses. He called on teachers to parent pupils other than being harsh on them, citing pupils with disability as such vulnerable group.
