5 UPDF officers killed, scores injured in a road accident

Five UPDF soldiers are reported dead and over ten injured when a truck they were travelling in along Kasese-Fort Portal road overturned.
The driver of truck is said to have lost control at Bunjojo in Bunyangabu County in Kabarole district at around 6pm as he headed to Bundibugyo district.
“The truck driver lost control and the truck Reg No. H4DF 711 from Hima headed to Bundibugyo went off the road killing 5 soldiers on the spot and over 10 others were injured” said the Rwenzori Police spokesperson, Mr Bakari Bashir Mugah on Tuesday evening.
He said the injured were quickly whisked in civilian cars to Hima military barracks in a critical condition.
There is a sharp corner at Bunjojo village about 35 kms along Fort Portal- Kasese road where the accident happened.
Mr Bakari said no other road users were involved in the accident.
When contacted, the army spokesperson for the UPDF 2nd Division, Maj Ronald Kakurungu said, “The injured were rushed at the Brigade headqauters hospital at Hima while others were rushed to different hospitals in Kasese”
He added, “We are still investigating the cause of the accident”
