Kampala- A total of 41 districts will not receive money for immunisation for the third quarter of the year until they have submitted accountability, the Health state minister has said.
Dr Elioda Tumwesigye, while speaking at the opening of an immunisation stakeholders meeting recently, told the district officials from across the country that any district that has not accounted for monies released in the period of May, June, July and August will not get the Shs500 million for immunisation.
“We are tasking them to account for every penny of GAVI funds spent on immunisation activities. We will not release these monies to be spent as the district officials please as they aid their primitive accumulation of riches,” he said.
The Uganda National Expanded Programme on Immunisation programme manager, Dr Robert Mayanja, said the districts must account first or miss out on the funding.
“We have already released funds for the other 69 districts that have submitted accountabilities but we will not do the same for those that haven’t because we are not sure whether they used the money or not and on what activities,” said Dr Mayanja.
