14 Held Over Marijuana

Police in Mbarara are holding 14 men for allegedly selling and consuming marijuana.

The suspects were arrested on Wednesday during a police operation to crack down on criminals targeting people going for the festive season.

Ronald Tumusiime (23), William Mugisha (22), James Abaho (19), Bernard Nyesiga (28), David Twijukye (30), Johnan Tuhairwe (26), Lawrence Bashaija (22), Lauben Asiimwe(26), Herbert Friday (23), Daisan Mujuni (28), Nicholas Atwine (30), Darius Niwamanya (24), Medard Ainebyoona (22) and David Kyagulanyi are all under police investigations.

The officer in charge of Mbarara police station, Lugene Magyezi, told The Observer that the 14 were arrested from areas of Ruti, Kijungu, Nyamitanga and Nyamityobora – suburbs of Mbarara municipality. It is alleged that some were found in possession of marijuana packed in bags and others were found openly smoking it.

Magyezi urged Mbarara residents to avoid moving at night because wrongdoers were out there looking for Christmas loot.
