Busitema to start technology centre

Busitema University has started an innovation and incubation centre to accelerate the growth of technopreneurs in the renewable energy sector.

According to the university vice chancellor, Prof Mary Okwakol, the technology and incubation centre will also accelerate ICT, biotech and engineering industries to grow from ideation to commercialisation via provision of intervention programmes in critical areas.

The innovations and incubation centre is expected to start this year. Prof Okwakol revealed that the centre will be charged with the responsibility of incubating and nurturing knowledge-based enterprises by providing expertise and support in technical and business skills, provide hand holding services, which include comprehensive coaching, mentoring, consultancy and training to enhance technopreneurship and to facilitate technopreneurs for better access to funding.

Other initiativesThis comes barely two days after President Museveni tasked the university to initiate the faculty of Marine sciences so that the country is able to train and produce experts in marine, who can do boat building, operate marines, as well as maintain them instead of hiring foreign experts.

rof Okwakol said Busitema University has positioned itself to be a transformative university by embracing agricultural modernisation, irrigation, agro-processing, mining, animal production and natural sciences as programmes relevant and aligned in Uganda’s development plan.
